Do you allow out of state adoptions?
We do allow out of state adoptions provided that the dog to be adopted is spayed/neutered and medically ready (vaccinated, heartworm treated completed, etc) and adopter is willing to drive to Ohio.
Do you provide transportation to potential adopters?
We do not provide transportation.
How long does the application process take?
It can be relatively quick if the application is complete, vets and landlords have been notified to expect our call and volunteers are able to reach contacts timely.
Where are you located and how can we meet dogs?
We are a foster based in the Columbus Ohio area. Once approved, we make arrangements for meet & greets either at a foster home or at our vet hospital in Gahanna Ohio.
I’m a previous adopter and want another dog? What do I need to do.
Email info@columbuscockerrescue.org and we will forward a shortened application to be completed and returned. We contact vet offices on all applications..
How much is the adoption fee?
Our fee ranges from $200-$400 depending upon age.
Is a fence required for all dogs?
For many of our dogs, a fence is recommended. Dogs that we identify as potential flight risks will require fenced yards.
Do you allow dog doors?
We do, but ask that it remain closed when the dog is home alone as we have seen newly adopted dogs dig under fences.
Where do your dogs come from?
Most of our dogs are released Amish breeder dogs from Ohio and Tennessee. Some are strays and occasionally an owner surrender.
What if a dog doesn’t work out? Can we return?
We will always take our dog back. Within 2 weeks of signing of the contract, we will return the adoption fee.
Can I hold a dog until I come back from vacation?
We do not hold dogs. If there are additional approved applications, we will consider them.
Am I first in line to adopt a certain dog?
We look at all approved applications for the best fit.
When can puppies be adopted?
All puppies must be weaned from mom (if applicable), spayed/neutered and vaccinated before adoption.
Can I adopt an unaltered dog if I agree to have it done at my vet office?
All dogs are spayed/neutered at our vet office and placement must be local (within 1 hour) to our vet office in Gahanna Ohio unless the dog is already altered.
Do you adopt to households with young children?
We will consider all households but may recommend no small children when the dog may not react well to a child’s mannerisms (running, yelling, etc), may knock over a child or we know he/she has had issues with children in the past.
